February is National Pet Dental Health Month

FEBRUARY IS PET DENTAL HEALTH MONTH!
Dental care for our pets is as important as it is for us to stay healthy. Dental care is often overlooked for our pets until there is a problem such as bad breath, difficulty chewing, or excessive drooling.  Thankfully, here at North Country Veterinary Clinic, dental exams are part of the yearly wellness visit.  That being said, it is difficult to fully evaluate your pet's mouth while they are awake.  This is why yearly sedated exams and cleanings are so important.

Dental disease can cause mouth pain and severe infection that can make your pet feel overall unwell.  Untreated dental disease can cause irreversible bone loss and problems with other organs, such as kidney failure from bacteria released into the bloodstream from chronic infection.

During a cleaning, we also take full mouth radiographs to evaluate problems under the gum line at the tooth roots.  At times it may be necessary to extract teeth that are diseased or loose which will be performed while your pet is comfortably under anesthesia.  Antibiotics may be prescribed before and after cleanings to clear up any infections.  If needed we will also prescribe pain medication after any dental surgery.

Call us during the month of February to schedule your pet's dental cleaning and you will receive $30 off the procedure for National Pet Dental Health Month.  We look forward to seeing your pet soon to give them a beautiful smile!
