"Haleigh" came in on emergency when she became very lethargic, pale and was unable to lift herself off of the floor. Her family reported that she had a poor appetite and just wasn't herself over the past several days. After a thorough exam, Dr. Ludwig immediately performed bloodwork and diagnosed "Haleigh" with AUTOIMMUNE HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA. We quickly coordinated to have one of our pre-screened blood donor dogs brought in. After the blood donation was obtained "Haleigh" was given the life saving transfusion over the next hour while our extensively trained team stood by and monitored her closely.
We are thrilled to report that after a couple of days in the hospital to monitor her blood counts and starting on required medications "Haleigh" is doing great!! We will continue to monitor her blood counts frequently over the coming weeks to catch any changes early but we expect her to fully recover!
