Layla suffered a "spinal stroke" also know as FCE (A fibrocartilaginous embolism), leaving her unable to properly use her hind legs. (FCE) is a fairly common disorder in which a piece of fibrous cartilage obstructs the blood supply to the spinal cord. It started out as a fun day playing frisbee catch with her family, when suddenly she couldn't get up off the ground. Her family has been an integral part of her rehabilitation providing continued therapy at home. The WATER TREADMILL is an excellent rehabilitative tool providing continuous movement coupled with water resistance to strengthen her weak muscles and activate her muscle memory. At the first treatment she was unable to bear weight on her left hind leg and required extensive assistance to not only move her limb, but to stand. By her fifth treatment, shown in the video, she is standing well with only balance assistance and correctly placing her foot almost 100% of the time! Go Layla! We are thrilled to see the progress she has made in such a short time. With the dedication of her family and the staff at NCVC, Layla is going to continue to progress and be back to catching frisbees in no time!
